BRUCE CAMERON- MIDNIGHT DAYDREAM - demos

Reviewed by Kevin Julie 6/98

NOTE: NEW PHOTOS FROM JOHN JETER COMING SOON !!!!!

From the same school as another North Carolina based psychedelic rock enthusiast, ANY-BEE, comes songwriter/guitarist Bruce Cameron.
BAND OF GYPSYS REUNITED !!!!!!!
Cameron's own 6 track demo tape is a throwback to the late '60's with influences and traces of Dylan, Beatles, Alice Cooper, Hendrix, Zappa, The Byrds, Pink Floyd, and more.

Plenty of Sitars are on the 1st two tracks, the catchy instrumental "Waterfall", and psych ballad "Mind Gardens". "Drug Store Playground" is another instrumental track with electric guitar and traces of blues and psychedelia. It is the latter three tracks that deserve the most attention and may garner plenty of support amongst listeners, with Cameron's knack for catchy choruses and interesting harmonies and effects. "Miles Away" perhaps stands out the most; it's a catchy pop-rocker, much in the vein of Dylan and the Byrds (with a very Tom Petty sounding vocal!).

"Just Like A Spaceman" features a neat keyboard intro, as well as plenty of cool synths, a light 60's sounding vocal, a Floydian guitar solo, and the melody is very reminiscent of latter day Beatles (in particular "I Am The Walrus" and Lucy In The Sky").

Lastly is "A Thousand moons" which is again another '60's Floydian sounding psych tune, with light vocals, '60's guitar effects and eerie background sounds. Cameron seems bent on tripping back to the Hippie days with his own brand of somewhat unique and refreshing rock music. This stuff is very summertime feeling music, and heck if there's any '60's revival around the corner - this guy will be in the forefront ! Cool stuff, and hopefully just the beginning of much more to come ! Classic and Psych rockers - Check it out !!!"

A FEW WORDS ABOUT BRUCE CAMERON FROM MICHAEL BRUCE GUITARIST OF THE ORIGINAL ALICE COOPER GROUP

"I could hardly believe the great news that Bruce Cameron was releasing a new album. Bruce and I met in North Carolina while I was recording and performing with ANT-BEE and working on the "No More Mister Nice Guy" book.
Words from Michael Bruce !!
I wanted to hear all those "Hendrix" type guitar riffs Bruce floored me with - AGAIN - because I had known Jimi, and had spent some and in the studios in Hollywood and New York with him.

It was going to be like a breath of air from the gods to hear Bruce rip it up ! I was so jazzed at hearing Bruce's music that I listened to his cassette all the way 'cross country and then wrote a couple of songs of my own!

You can take it from someone who's been there and back; the man is a serious player and has something to say. I look forward to hearing and playing on Bruce Cameron's new album Midnight Daydream, cause the music says it all !!

BAND OF GYPSYS REUNITED!!!!

August / 1998 - Jimi Hendrix's original Band of Gypsys - Buddy Miles and Billy Cox - will reunite to record with guitarist song writer Bruce Cameron, who hails from Wilmington, NC.

These historic recording sessions will take place on Sept. 17, the 28th anniversary of Hendrix's's death, and will be released on Bruce Cameron's forthcoming album Midnight Daydream (tentative release spring '99.)

This also marks the first time Miles and Cox have recorded together with an artist since Hendrix's passing. Plans for a video of these historic sessions is in the works as well.

Other guest musicians for this ambitious CD project are Michael Bruce and Neal Smith of the Alice Cooper Group, Ken Hensley of Uriah Heep fame, Harvey Dalton Arnold from the Outlaws, Bunk Gardner of the Mothers Of Invention, and the unredoubtable ANT-BEE.
