I have been a fan of Heep since 1979, when I first heard the 8-track tape of "Live 1973"...the song playing was "Gypsy". I was hooked on the band soon after, listening to that tape constantly.
My favorite Heep is the years 1970-75...I admit to not really delving into the post-Byron years...yet.
I regret having never seen them live...although if the current line up comes around...I do have various compilations, so I have heard tunes featuring the other vocalists, it's just that the Byron era holds the most "magic" for me, personally.
Aside from the compilations, my collection ends with "Return to Fantasy". Some of my fave albums are "Live 1973", "Very 'eavy, Very 'umble", "Look at Yourself", "Demons & Wizards" & "Sweet Freedom". As for songs, in no particular order: One Day, Too Scared to Run, Suicidal Man, July Morning, Paradise/The Spell, Tales, Sweet Freedom, I Wanna Be Free and Circle of Hands.
It's great to be a part of the Heepsters list, I no longer am in contact with the few friends who enjoyed Heep as much as I, so it's good to be among the enlightened!
My wife just doesn't get into this type of music...and gets tired of hearing my talking about them sometimes! I'm sure I'm not the only one here with that complaint! Since joining this list about a month or so ago (Aug. 2000), I've been helped tremendously by some of the members in getting information & tapes, videos, etc. It's a good place to be, and I look forward to a long stay here, thanks!"
