Kevin Slaymaker

My
name is Kevin Slaymaker and I come from Milton Keynes in Buckinghamshire,
England. Having finally learned the computer ropes I was working my way through
the `Heeps` of online material when I came across the Travellers in Time website
and the `Meet the Heepsters` page and thought I would add to it. Hopefully I
should get a personal website up and running during 2006 complete with a Heep
page or two of my own.
I
was born in 1957 and have been into Uriah Heep from the age of 15. My first
experience of Uriah Heep was hearing The Wizard from Demons and Wizards and it
has been a favourite ever since, vying with Lady in Black as my all time
personal favourite. The problem is that there are so many great songs and
therefore so many favourites. Each album has its own classic track from the
perennial Gypsy to Tears in my Eyes to Pilgrim to Firefly to Blood Red Roses to
.
I have to admit that I prefer the earlier stuff but I
guess that is because I grew up in that era. Without doubt however, I am
steadily getting into all the latest offerings along with everything in between.
My first Heep concert was at the Rainbow Theatre back in about 1973 and the last
was at the Hammersmith Odeon on June 22nd 1974. I have waited a long time for
another but that wait will end in November 2005 when I get to see them in
Sheffield, England, 31 years after my last Heep gig.
Uriah Heep got into my blood early and never left even
after a `break` of 20 years or so! After getting married to Lynda (not a Heep
fan) in 1978, having Matthew in 1984 (who is slowly getting into Heep), doing a
self build, playing football, cricket and golf, running football teams, helping
to run a nature group for kids, birdwatching and twitching, staying married to
Lynda (still not a Heep fan) and trying to earn a living as a self employed
electrician I never seemed to find the time to really listen to Heeps music
apart from the odd blast until the last couple of years but how things change. I
am still doing lots of the above but the Heep cd collection has grown and I am
back to listening to Heep on a regular basis. During that time however Heeps
music was never far away in my mind and quite often I would utter the immortal
words ``There I was on a July Morning`` or ``When I was only 17`` or maybe ``In
the magic garden`` or even ``He was the Wizard
.``.
I hadn`t really considered myself anything other than a fan of Uriah Heep but after surfing the net and visiting Heep sites I realised that there are `Heeps` of other people out there that have stayed loyal, followed and supported the band in all their changes no matter at which stage they got into Heep and who like to be called `Heepsters`. That is why after 33 years of travelling in time and staying loyal to Heep I`d like to think that I also qualify as a bonafide `Heepster`.
