To
start, I was born in Denver Colorado 4-16-74. My parents decided to move back to
Cedar Falls Iowa to be with friends and family. I remember riding around town
with headphones on listening to Uriah Heep and Led Zeppelin at maximum volume.
It's a wonder I have any hearing left. I've been a Heepfan ever since I found
those records in the basement.
I am currently a full time student at Hamilton College here in town. I am going for my business degree. I plan to open up a record store someday. I also run a small records by mail business from home.
My parents saw Heep in 73' while my mother was
pregnant with me. They went to the show tripping shrooms! I wonder if that had
any impact on me? It must have! They said that they would never forget that
night with Heep. One of the best bands they had ever seen. I have been a musician since the age of fourteen. I
learned by ear, playing along with Uriah Heep records. My first band was called
Fantasy Kitchen. It was in 88' we recorded a fourty five minute demo called
"songs-o-weird". It eventually sold over 400 copies here in town, and
was aired on several college radio stations, and was reviewed
in several local papers. A very exciting
time for me. Fantasy Kitchen matured and gaind a respectable following in town
until our disbanding in 92'. My younger brother was playing drums. He went on to
form another group with friends called Thinner. I did not play in a band again
until 97'. Still somewhat shocked I guess.
Thinner lost their bass player in 97', and my brother asked me if I would buy a bass and try out. I did. I went to a local pawn shop and bought a 1967 Univox bass. It sounded great, and it was only $99.00! The name Thinner was tossed out, and we renamed ourselves Full Cast Crown. We played but never recorded "wish we would have", until 99' and disbanded due to an internal conflict.
I then was hired by an electronic based group called Inner-Kube, and I played with them until 2001. We played over 300 shows in those two years together. I felt that I was'nt able to do what I wanted musically and I decided to leave Inner-Kube.
My brother had joined a group called Test Project in the meantime, and they were having bass player problems, and asked me to come sit in for a practice. That practice went so well, that I had all the songs down in less than five hours, none too soon the phone rings, and it's a local venue needing a replacement band for the evening. Test Project accepted, and I was on stage the same day I joined the group. Test Project went on playing many shows, actually, one show, we finished playing, and I jumped in the car and drove to Trenton NJ, to see Heep the next day! Eventually, our guitar player went a little psycho and removed himself from the group, taking all his music with him. We had been recording for nine months previous to that, and he would not allow us to release the cd. So we decided "for the better", to start over.
Basically that is where I am now.We have a new guitar player, and we have written all new songs, and are recording our debut. We hope to have a finished product by April 04'. I have a strong feeling about this one. We have all matured signifigantly, and that has reflected into the music. I have a hard time trying to describe what we sound like to people. We are a lush progressive/hard rock. That's about the best I can say. I am also in the works trying to commission Roger Dean to do the cover art, and logo for us as well. I will keep updating everyone on the Heeplist. If anyone is interested in obtaining a copy when they are done, just email me here.
Heepwise: My favorite Heep song would have to be "Salisbury", although I love them all, that one sticks out for me. I hope to see Heep many more times down the road. I wish they would play the states more often, but I know how hard it can be with poor promotion and whatnot. I saw Heep for the first time in 93' in Davenport, Iowa at the Col Ballroom. But that was'nt the best. The greatest of all was two years ago in Trenton. I guess those are my favorite Heep memories. Anyway, happy Heeping to all! See ya on the list!
Here are my photos of my Trenton memories..............
