Hi, my name is Glen Doucet and I was born September 22, 1959
(same birthday as Bilbo and Frodo Baggins from Lord of the Rings) which means
I’m about to turn 44 years old. I’m divorced and have 1 beautiful daughter, Jordan who is
18. I just remarried again for the 2nd time to a beautiful woman
Anne, who has been my partner and soul mate for almost 11 years now. I live in Fredericton, New Brunswick on Canada’s east coast,
but was born and raised in a quiet little village named Jacquet River in the
northeast of our province. My passions are music and football (CFL, The Great White
North version, 3 downs, wider field). My favourite football team for 34 years
and counting is the Montreal Alouettes, go Al’s, defending Grey Cup champs for
2002, who will repeat in 2003, I hope. I’ve been a big Heep fan since about 1974 when I discovered
them after buying their Best Of Volume 2 (a Canadian release). I have been
hooked on Heep music ever since. I enjoy a lot of music including Deep Purple, Black Sabbath,
Rare Bird, Budgie, Grand Funk, Babe Ruth, April Wine, Beatles, Bowie, Charlie,
Styx, Alice Cooper, Doobie Brothers, ELP, Moody Blues, Doors, New York Dolls,
Pink Floyd, Iron Butterfly, Elton John, Lucifer’s Friend, Lighthouse, Nazareth,
Queen, Rush, Santana, Stampeders, BTO, Guess Who, Strawbs, String Driven Thing,
Supertramp, Ten Years After, Three Dog Night, Rick Wakeman, Crawler, Jethro
Tull and many others but my favourite is Heep and anything heep related. No other band seems to do it for me like Heep. Their music
touches your soul; their lyrics are intelligent, thought provoking, timeless. I lost touch with Heep and good music in general in the 80’s
and early 90’s but began buying music again in the early 1990’s. Growing up in the eastern part of Canada, we lacked the
population to attract big bands to our area unless they were Canadian bands.
Most UK or US bands only played the large cities, Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver,
etc. So keeping in touch with your favourite bands was very difficult if not
impossible. However, with the advent of the web, one of the first things
I looked for was Uriah Heep and I discovered their site and also so many people
worldwide who love the band as much as I do, which has been a very rewarding
experience. My greatest Heep moment was seeing them live in Vanderhoof,
British Columbia, Canada. We were on vacation in the Canadian Rockies at the
same time Heep were playing at a 3-day concert in northern BC. A seven hour
drive through the mountains and I got to see my favourite group. The pictures you see below are of Anne and myself with Mick,
Trevor, Bernie and Phil. The camera screwed up the shot with Lee, which sucked.
Words cannot describe the feeling I had meeting the guys (notice the grin from
ear to ear), except I was at a loss for the right words to say while talking
with them. Everything I have read over the years about how
approachable, nice guys they are is absolutely true. There were no pretences on
their part; they were just genuine friendly people who were happy to meet us. I’ve been fortunate with the web and e-mail to be able to
communicate with Mick and Ken, Dave Kaffinetti (formerly of Rare Bird) and
Jenny Haan (formerly of Babe Ruth). This would have been impossible not that
many years ago but is a fan’s dream come true today. My dream before Heep retire is to see them live again,
hopefully in Europe somewhere and preferably at a Magician’s Birthday party in
England so I can also meet many of the heepsters. Take care and keep on Heepin, Glen Doucet September 4, 2003
