I am currently Assistant Professor of History at Oklahoma Panhandle State University. My areas include American history, Social and Intellectual history, and Popular Culture Studies. My wife Amy and I have two sons.
My hobbies include movies, music collecting, and reading. I also have a background in music, holding a degree in music from Oklahoma City University. I am a percussionist and vocalist, and a dabbler in keyboards and bass guitar. My former band "Ebenezer Church" recorded an album in 1995 that included a song called "Taste the Tears" that was a musical homage to Heep, particularly the swirling, distorted Hammond B3. It is my proudest musical moment to this day, and it was inspired by Heep.
My favorite Heep memories include seeing the Lawton-era Heep open for KISS in January of 1977 in Norman, Oklahoma. It was my first concert (at age 8). Heep blew me away. The next day I purchased "Return to Fantasy" and "The Magician's Birthday" and have been a devoted fan ever since. My only other Heep concerts were Summer of '83 when the band opened for Foghat in Lawton, Oklahoma(and blew them away, I might add. Goalby was an amazing vocalist) and the intimate Oklahoma City show on the 2001 tour. The band rocked as always and it was a dream come true to get to hang out and talk to the band after the show. What a great bunch of guys and what a rush for a Heepster like myself!
Thanks for all the memories, guys. I look forward to many more years of Heep magic. Long live Heep!
