My name is Bob Carruthers I run an independent film and television
production company, now based in Stratford-upon-Avon, England.
I am originally from Scotland and until very recently thought I was the only
person in the world who still worshipped Uriah Heep so I really can't thank
all of you people enough for putting this brilliant web-site together.
I first saw Uriah Heep in 1974 on the 'Wonderworld' tour at Edinbugh Odeon
and subsequently saw the band do 'Return to Fantasy' also at Edinburgh Odeon
, 'Innocent Victim' at the Usher Hall, Edinburgh and 'Abominog' at a little
club in Glasgow. In 1989 I had the good fortune to meet the current line up
as they performed at Central Television where I then worked. My own
memories are hazy, but those of you who were there will I hope agree we had
a terrific evening. I think.
I do however have a small confession to make, I stopped following this
particular line-up of the band after 'Raging Silence', thinking that the
glory days were over and that the back catalogue was good enough to last me
to my dying day anyway.
It was only the masses of rave reviews for 'Sonic Origami', which brought me
back into the fold. They were right, this albumn is a real masterpiece and
I can't wait to hear the next offering. I promise never to stray from the
path again!
Workwise, my career as an independent producer/director has certainly been
varied. From producing and directing Oliver Reed in his last British movie
to attempting to keep Brian Blessed on planet Earth as he wrestled with the
'mighty Stonehenge of the mind' that is King Lear.
Movies aside, my main speciality is as a producer of historical
documentaries covering military history from the dark ages to the present
day. If you get Discovery or History Channel, you can't miss our stuff.
You can find out more about my professional activities at
www.cromwelledu.com, or the new www.history-zone.com site which will come
on-line in July.
My hobbies include rugby football, supporting Heart of Midlothian football
club and playing the bagpipes - For those of you who haven't heard 'July
Moring' in B Flat with three full on drones - it's not something you forget
easily.
For the last twelve years I have been married to my beautiful wife Michele
and we have been blessed with three adorable daughters Millie (10), Harriet
(8) and Florence (6). We have now added a black labrador to the fold - also
female (Poppy). My wife tells me that being surrounded by women is God's
punishment for my wicked ways as a beer drinking chauvinist.
Outside of Uriah Heep, other musical favourites include, Bach, Beethoven,
Jethro Tull, Yes, King Crimson, Genesis, Led Zepellin, Deep Purple and all
the usual suspects from the golden era of British rock.
I love to talk Heep, so email me anytime. (CMbahf@cs.com)
The only picture I could find to hand
is this one taken at a friends wedding.
My wife is the one in the light blue skirt!
