Barry McIntosh

[Reformated 5/01/03]

My name is Barry McIntosh, I am 45 years old (for the next 2 weeks, at least) I am divorced with 2 children, Drew (son age 17) and Heather (Daughter age 15). I am an accountant and currently work as a Controller for a Wholesale Distributor of Lighting Products to the Construction industry. I work in Atlanta GA and reside (mainly on the weekends) in Macon, GA. In addition to being an avid Heepster, I love movies, collect Hardback 1st edition books and follow Baseball (Go Braves!!), College Basketball (Dayton & Georgia State Univ) and Pro Football (the Falcons ((well 2 out of 3 ain't bad))).

I became a Heepster in the Winter of 1973. My first new LP was Wonderworld. I was introduced to Heep by my best friend and the first song I heard was "Bird of Prey". Being a textbook "Obsessive/Compulsive" I bought all earlier LP's in very short order and I was HOOKED!!

Probably like most Heepsters, my favorite LP was Demons and Wizards. Paradise/The Spell was my favorite track back then. All these years later there are too many favorites to list. I was (and still am) a huge Hensley fan. Although one gains perspective with age. During the 70's Ken was my IDOL. I received a copy of "Proud Words On a Dusty Shelf" for Christmas in 1974. I loved it!!! To this day it is one of my all time favorite LP's. I had the good fortune of tracking Ken down via telephone in the early 90's and talked with him twice. What a genuine thrill. Especially during those dark days in the "Wilderness Years" when you might go 2 or 3 years without hearing any Heep news at all. Thanks to the other Heepsters on the Web that is a thing of the past. Worth a special note is the Goalby era. Abominog and Head First rank in the top of my favorites - I think poor Pete gets overlooked.

I saw Heep live for the following tours (all in Atlanta GA)
1975 - Return To Fantasy,
1976 High & Mighty,
1977 Firefly,
1982 Abominog,
1983/4 Head First (opening for Judas Priest).

My biggest thrill was Heepvention 2000 where I had a chance to meet both Ken and John Lawton. What excitement!! They were both great guys!

I guess the most important thing to me is that Heep have always been a significant part of my daily life. I avidly followed Heep thru all the years and changes. There were several times that I thought it was over - and then they were back. And WOW did they ever come back. The current line up is awesome. And like "icing on a slab of heavy rock cake" Ken is making music again.
Life is Grand!!!!
Long Live Heep
Barry Mc
