THE WHEELS FALL OFF

The new lineup was packed off to the studio to create a followup album to Conquest. Conquest had been a huge departure from the style of music that had made Uriah Heep so popular. The question of the moment was  'Would the new album sound  anything  at all  like Uriah Heep without Ken Hensley?' Although close to an entire album was recorded, the band, particularly Mick and Trevor, had severe doubts about musical direction of the new tunes. In an interview with  Kevin  Julie,  Greg Dechert described the music from the  sessions as heavy rock that's "pretty   soulful... a little lighter, a little swingier, and a little bit funkier". The band had used up all it's alloted studio time and still  didn't  have  a  finished  product. So Mick decided to go home to New Mexico to do  some  soul  searching. After three weeks  of  contemplation, Mick came to a conclusion. He didn't feel this lineup had  any  chemistry or common  direction.  He  decided  to disband Uriah Heep. He informed all the bandmembers of his decision and he  met  very  little  objections.  The album  was  shelved  and  Heep  was disbanded. However, Mick had some other plans in mind for Uriah Heep!
